Goals and Philosophies of the Clover Kid program:
1.
To give an opportunity to participate in activities uniquely suited to the developmental
age
2.
To grow and learn in a non-competitive environment
3.
To participate in hands –on learning in a cooperative environment
4.
To leach life skills appropriate for youth in Kindergarten through Third grade
Youth must meet the following guidelines to participate in the Poweshiek County Fair:
1.
Youth must be in Kindergarten through Third grade during the 2010 – 2011 school year.
2.
Youth must be enrolled as a Clover Kid in a Poweshiek County Clover Kid Club by May 1, 2011.
Clover Kid Classes/Shows for the Poweshiek County Fair:
Indoor Displays- (Clover Kids are limited to four indoor projects. (Crafts, baked goods, posters, sewing, home improvement, horticulture, etc.)
Display exhibits in 4-H Exhibit Building (Check in Saturday, July 16 starting at 9:00 am) – Clover Kids have the opportunity to bring projects and speak with an adult volunteer about their indoor project. All projects receive a participation ribbon and will be kept on display until July 24th at 2:00 pm.

They will be given a Clover Kid entry tag for each project at check in.

A Clover Kid goal card will need to be attached to the exhibit. ( This information is available on the extension website: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/poweshiek/ or the Poweshiek County Fair website: www.poweshiekcountyfair.org )
Clover Kid Small Pets – (Limit of one pet) (Clover Kids will interview with an adult volunteer. All projects receive a participation ribbon. Interviews will be held Saturday, July 16th from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
1) A Clover Kid pet goal card will need to be brought with the pet. (This information is available on the extension website: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/poweshiek/ or the Poweshiek County Fair website: www.poweshiekcountyfair.org )
2) Check the Health Requirements as stated in the section of the Pet Department of the fair book. These will apply for Clover Kid pet projects.
3) Bring a picture of your pet if you would like to display it in your club’s booth during the fair
Clover Kid Bottle Bucket Calf GRADES 1-3
Saturday, July 16, 2011 8:30 to 9:00 am
Covered arena at the fairgrounds
1. Any youth who has completed Grade 1-3 and enrolled by May 1, 2011, may exhibit in this class.
2. Exhibitors must complete the Clover Kid Entry Form to the Extension Office/Fair Office by July 1, 2011.
3. The purpose of this age appropriate class is to give the Clover Kid an opportunity to lead the calf in the show ring at halter. Exhibitors in this class may lead the calves with the assistance of a parent or senior 4-Her. Youth will not be allowed in the show ring without an adult helping them lead the calf.
4. Calves must have been born between December 15, 2010 and May 15, 2011, any breed, any sex.
5. During conference judging, the exhibitor will be asked to attempt the following:
1.
Showmanship:
The animal needs to be clean and neat
The exhibitor can handle the animal with some assistance from
the adult (Looking for a relationship between exhibitor and calf)
Can the calf be led with a halter?
2. Interview:
Basic questions about the project:
How they cared for their project
Age of animal, how often they feed it, and what do they feed it?
6. Participation ribbons will be given for this class. No premiums will be paid.
7. Exhibitors are to wear a 4-H Clover Kid/4-H Club t-shirt in the show ring.
8. Calves are released after conference judging.
Clover Kid Bottle Lamb/Goat Grades K-3
Saturday, July 16, 2011 9:00 to 9:30 am
Covered Arena at the Fairgrounds
1. Any youth who has completed Grade K-3 and enrolled by May 1, 2011, may
exhibit in this class.
2. Exhibitors must complete the Clover Kid Entry Form to the Extension
Office/Fair Office by July 1, 20ll.
3. Any orphan or newborn lamb/kid born between January 1 and May 1 during the
current project year is eligible for the participant.
4. All animals must have a scrapie tag.
5. An exhibitor may identify up to 3 animals, but is limited to 1 exhibit for exhibition
at the county fair.
6. All exhibitors must wear their 4-H club or Clover Kid t-shirt while in the show
ring.
7. All lambs/kids are to be halter broke and show at halter/collar.
8. All exhibitors must have an adult or senior 4-Her in the show ring with them.
9. The bottle lamb/kids class is to be fun for the exhibitor and also learning
experience. The Exhibitor will be asked to attempt the following:
1. Showmanship:
Set the lamb/kid (on all four feet)
Move the lamb/kid around the ring
Keep lamb/kid between themselves and the judge.
2. Interview:
Basic questions about the project
How they cared for their project, age of animal, how often they
feed it, and what they feed it?
10. All exhibitors will receive a participation ribbon for their efforts
11. Lambs are released after the conference judging.
